Impact Assessments

An impact assessment is a way of assessing the effects that a policy or function applied by the force is likely to have on a minority group or an individual from a minority group on the grounds of colour, race, gender, transgender status, marital or civil partnership status, nationality, ethnic or national origins, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief.

The force has a legal obligation under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, Disability Discrimination Act 2005 and the Equality Act 2006 to conduct impact assessments on force policies and functions by:

  • assessing and consulting on the likely impact of its proposed policies, force standing orders and functions on the promotion of race, gender and disability equality;
  • monitoring its policies, force standing orders and functions for any adverse impact on the promotion of race, gender and disability equality;
  • publishing the result of consultation and monitoring of such assessments.

To assist staff an impact assessment toolkit has been developed which provides a brief summary of the legislative requirement for Impact Assessments and details on their completion in force.

Our impact assessment summary reports are available to download here.
