Transfer Under Licence

Where a shot gun, firearm or ammunition is sold, hired, lent or given to a person in Great Britain who is not a registered firearms dealer or exempt from requiring a certificate:

• The person receiving it must produce a certificate or permit authorising them to possess it.
• The person giving it must comply with the instructions on the certificate or permit and hand it personally to the person receiving it.
• Both must notify the Chief Officer of police who issued their certificate in writing within seven days by registered post.

A Firearm/Shot Gun Transfer Form (FELS 8) is available to assist with this notification.
