Victim Support

Victim Support is a national charitable organisation which offers practical and emotional assistance to victims of crime. The service is free and confidential and is provided by trained volunteers.

Victim Support can offer

  • a sympathetic ear
  • emotional support
  • practical help including criminal injuries compensation, insurance claim forms, personal safety and crime prevention
  • information on the criminal justice system including identity parades and court witness appearances.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary operates an opt-out scheme in relation to Victim Support. This gives the victim of crime the opportunity to say whether or not they want their name and other details passed to Victim Support.

Victim Support Scotland is the lead voluntary organisation in Scotland helping people affected by crime. It provides emotional support, practical help and essential information to victims, witnesses and others affected by crime. The service is free and confidential.
