Cases in Scotland are heard in the District, Sheriff or High Court depending on the severity of the offence.
If the offender pleads guilty prior to his/her trial date, you will not be required to attend or give evidence.
You might be worried about being asked to appear as a witness but the court makes it as straightforward as possible. You will receive a letter known as a citation to tell you when and where the trial will take place. With the letter you'll be sent an expenses claim form and a leaflet, called 'Being a Witness', which sets out in more detail what will happen.
