Neighbourhood Watch is a voluntary organisation, supported by the police, set up to encourage residents to look after their own neighbourhoods by reporting anything suspicious to the police. Schemes are normally set up at street level with a co-ordinator acting as a link between the neighbourhood and the police.
Neighbourhood Watch can be a force to be reckoned with. Well-organised schemes can make a real difference to your quality of life.
It isn't about being a nosy neighbour, it's about preventing crime in your area by stimulating a sense of community through an active interest in such matters.
It can provide opportunities for real co-operation and it really does work if all participants help make it do so.
