Bikesafe (Scotland)

The Bikesafe initiative was set up in Scotland in 1999 when Chief Constables from all eight Scottish forces signed up to provide education to motorcycling members of the public. The scheme aimed to directly address the rising figures for fatal and serious injury crashes involving motorcyclists, which in Scotland are increasing by around nine percent per year. The figures are of particular concern as all other classes of road user are enjoying a reduction in the same figures.

The Bikesafe scheme has now reached the end of its five year term but the name is still being used to flag motorcycle safety issues. It has been successful in introducing a number of local bikers to Advanced Motorcycling and to this end the force motorcyclists have developed a good relationship with the local Institute of Advanced Motorists, Motorcycle Branch.

If you want to enjoy your biking think seriously about learning how to do it better. We are more than happy to see local bikers at the Bikesafe presentations and are always open to approaches from any riders seeking advice on safer riding at any time.
