Drumlanrig Castle Art Theft

On Wednesday 27 August 2003, the Leonardo Da Vinci painting known as 'Madonna with the Yarnwinder' was stolen from Drumlanrig Castle, Thornhill.

Extensive police enquiries have been conducted into this crime. A reconstruction of the crime and a witness appeal was carried on the BBC Crimewatch programme.

On Thursday 4 October 2007, Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary in conjunction with the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, Serious Organised Crime Agency and Strathclyde Police recovered the stolen painting.
